Resignation of UFUQ President

On Wednesday 9 December 2015, UFUQ State President Mark Dearlove informed the executive that he had made the decision to stand down from the President’s role for personal reasons.

I take this opportunity to thank Mark on behalf of all UFUQ members for his efforts as the State President since 2012 and for holding various other elected positions within the UFUQ over a 20 year period.

The period of his presidency was a difficult time for your union. Mark fought hard for the rights and working conditions that we currently have.

I wish to personally thank Mark for his assistance.

In this edition - The Queensland Criminal Code 1899 has for over a century included an offence for ‘stealing as a servant’. You will have seen many media reports over the years of workers being convicted of such criminal offences.

In this edition - On Monday 7 September 2020 the Treasurer Mr Dick provided a government economic update. In that update it was announced that all functions of Public Service Business Agency (PSBA) are being ‘folded back’ into One QFES and the QPS, and that the PSBA will be no more.

In this edition - The Public Service Business Agency (PSBA) was a dud from day one, based on a thought bubble in the now completely discredited Keelty Report. It’s still a dud. It was a bad idea and it’s driven bad outcomes in areas like uniforms, procurement, fleet, maintenance and workshops and more.

In this edition - In Code 2 Vol: 34 #31 of 24 July 2020 I provided an overview of your union’s work with the state government regarding changes to the workers’ compensation laws to provide for presumption of injury for PTSD injuries with coverage for professional firefighters and auxiliary firefighters, and fire communication officers.

In this edition - I am pleased to finally be able to officially report that the protracted negotiations between your union, QFRS and the state government have finally resulted in an agreement between your union and QFRS that for those working in GWN coverage, QFRS fireground communications will commence transitioning back to wideband analogue.

In this edition - You will recall in a recent Code 2 (V34#28 dated 09 July 2020) I reported that your union had written to the Commissioner asking how QFES intends to stop wasting money that needs to be directed towards firefighters, fire trucks and fire stations and fire communication centres.

v34#31 UFUQ CONTINUES CAMPAIGN FOR PRESUMPTIVE LEGISLATION FOR PSYCHOLOGICAL INJURIES

In this edition - As you would know, after many years of campaigning, in September 2015, the Palaszczuk Government passed amendments to the Workers’ Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003 (the Act) that resulted in the introduction of presumptive legislation for firefighters who are diagnosed with one of 12 ‘specified diseases’ (cancers).

In this edition - QFRS appears to have quietly installed dashcam video (always on) and the ability to secretly record in-cab discussions (always on) in the GPS trackers in new appliances appearing at stations now.
