Victorian Parliamentary Inquiry Report includes damning findings against Victorian CFA

On Tuesday 24 May 2016, the Victorian Parliament’s Environment and Natural Resources Committee released the report of the Victorian Parliamentary Inquiry into the CFA Fiskville Training Ground.

The Victorian Branch of your Union was instrumental in ensuring this inquiry was undertaken and the findings and recommendations have far reaching and significant impacts on the management of OH&S in the CFA.

The report is a bittersweet victory for all those Victorian firefighters who worked and were trained at the facility in Fiskville.

A copy of the Victorian Branch's summary of the report can be found here and we have also provided a link here to the Victorian Parliament's report.

Today, Friday 27 May 2016, we have requested a meeting with QFES to go through the findings and recommendations and their significance for Queensland. We will seek assurance that Queensland training facilities and locations are protected from the sort of contamination and resulting injuries, illnesses and deaths that have occurred from the contamination uncovered in the report.

I will keep you informed of the effects on our colleagues and friends in Victoria and also on the meeting I will have with QFES regarding this vital matter.
