UFUQ submission to Federal Senate Inquiry
On 27 March 2018 the Federal Senate referred to the Senate Employment Committee an inquiry into the role of the Commonwealth, State and Territory governments in addressing mental health conditions for emergency service workers.
Your union considers the role the Queensland government (and along with it QFES and Fire and Rescue as a department of the government) plays in preventing, responding to and managing mental health issues relating to our members could be significantly improved.
The UFUQ will make a submission to the inquiry, detailing the issues as we see the failures of the Queensland state government and of Fire and Rescue, and importantly, offer some ideas for improving Fire and Rescue’s capacity to prevent, or identify and manage, mental health issues in firefighting and fire communications.
I will provide a copy of our submissions once they have been completed and then keep you updated on the progress of the inquiry.
