QUEENSLAND BUDGET DELIVERS FOR PROFESSIONAL FIREFIGHTERS
I am pleased to report that the 2020-2021 budget handed down by the Queensland Treasurer on 1 December 2020 provides guaranteed funds for the announcements made prior to the Queensland state election in October 2020.
There is funding for –
- The first year’s funding for recruitment of more than 400 additional professional full-time firefighters (with commitments and planned funding for the following years through to the 2023-2024 budget), and
- Full funding for the return of your 17.5% annual leave loading, and
- Much more around capital works, appliances and the return of PSBA functions to QFRS by 1 July 2021.
I thank the Palaszczuk government and the Treasurer for putting their money where their mouths are and I look forward to working with Minister Ryan on what will be an exciting four years for Queensland Fire and Rescue.
