AUXILIARY UPDATE : 12 November 2019
UFUQ obtains 3% wage rise for Auxiliary Firefighters
I am pleased to report your union through its association with the Queensland Council of Unions has successfully sought and received a 3.0% wage rise for all auxiliary firefighters through the recent Annual State Wage Case Decision and General Ruling being handed down by the industrial commission on 6 November 2019.
The 3.0% wage rise also applies to some allowances in your Award and it is payable for all purposes back to 1 September 2019.
I have written to QFES asking them to demonstrate to your union that the wage rise, allowance variations and the back pay have been calculated and I have asked for a date upon which all of those benefits will be received by you.
I will pass on the information about your wage rises and back pay to you once it is received by the state office.
UFUQ continues to investigate inconsistencies in application of award entitlements
Only your union is able to work to obtain these wage and other employment conditions benefits for you. Employers do not come to unions or workers offering pay rises. They must be fought for and won. There is no one representing the interests of Auxiliary Firefighters and the improvement of your conditions of employment and other industrial matters other than your union.
This is why membership of the UFUQ is so important for auxiliary firefighters, you will recall recent Auxiliary Updates reporting successful efforts by the UFUQ to correct errors in –
• Retention allowance payments
• Public holiday payments
• Composite station captain’s allowance payments
Your union is now investigating further apparent inconsistencies and errors in calculation of your wages (denial of overtime payments) and conditions (denial of leave) and I will report further on these as the investigations progress.
