AUXILIARY UPDATE : 24 may 2024

5.75% WAGE RISE (AND BACKPAY) TO BE PAID IN MAY 2024

You will recall I advised you earlier this year of your 2023 wage rise.  You will soon see an increase in your remuneration (for example hourly rate and annual retention allowances) by 5.75%. This increase is a result of the State Wage Case, run by Queensland Unions in the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission.

We are advised by QFES that you will see this increase to your hourly rate commencing from your May 2024  pay. This rate will be effective from 01 September 2023, which means you will also receive backpay for any time worked since then. The backpay may take longer to calculate and we haven’t been advised of a firm date for that payment.

2% INCREASE IN CASUAL LOADING BEING REQUESTED

Your Union is also in the process of working with the Queensland Council of Unions, QFES and the Miles Government to increase the casual loading in Queensland from 23% to 25%, in line with your colleagues working in the federal system.

The application by the QCU to the QIRC will occur very soon and will likely take a few months. I’ll provide further updates on this matter as it progresses.

If and when this increase to your casual loading occurs, it will be permanent and will also represent a 7.75% rise in your hourly rate in the 2023-2024 financial year.

This sort of positive change only occurs because your union pushes for it, so advise your Auxiliary colleagues to get behind the UFUQ and join up, additional resources will allow your union to push harder for improvements to the auxiliary terms and conditions of employment.
