Queensland Election

There can be no doubt that the next Queensland election is looming.

As your union did before the previous state election, we are in the process of seeking firm commitments from both the ALP and the LNP regarding the next term of state government.

Some of the key commitments we are seeking are –
• An urgent increase in the number of firefighters and fire communication officers over the next term of government, to resolve rostering pressure and to assist with the total removal of temporary firefighters.
• A commitment to ensuring that fire and rescue maintain 1+3 (two in-two out) response at all urban stations and that special appliances are appropriately crewed.
• Ensuring that fire and rescue in Queensland continues to be fully funded and that there is a strong commitment to maintain and improve the current levels of fire and rescue response across the state.
• Not changing industrial relations laws to weaken the position of UFUQ members and trying to drive terms and conditions of employment down.

I will keep you informed as to the responses we receive from both sides of politics as we move towards an election and the next term of Queensland parliament.
