QSUPER INCOME PROTECTION AND ACCUMULATED BENEFIT CHANGES – QSUPER TO MEET WITH YOUR UNION

You may have received some information from QSuper or other sources about changes coming to some of the services provided by QSuper.  Some of the changes will have an impact on UFUQ members (for example waiting times for Income Protection).

As such, earlier in May 2019, your union requested an urgent meeting with QSuper management, as we have questions for them about the changes. Once we obtain some clarification on the matters affecting you and your colleagues, I will publish a further Code 2.  We expect the meeting to occur in early June, with the changes due to take effect on 1 July 2019.

I will report back to you after the meeting takes place.

v36#9 QFES IN A PANIC – TRYING TO CONTROL WHAT UFUQ CAN AND CANNOT DISPUTE!

In this edition - As you will no doubt recall, on Wednesday 27 April 2022, the UFUQ notified QFES of a dispute relating to the recent flawed recruitment and selection process that completely disregarded the vital requirement for regional Assistant Commissioners to have professional firefighting qualifications and experience.

In this edition - Towards the end of each financial year, your State Committee of Management (SCM) holds discussions regarding the membership fees paid by you and your colleagues and if an adjustment is required.

In this edition - It has come to the attention of the UFUQ state office that QFES has been going through a process of identifying a pool of ‘meritorious’ uniformed senior officers from Fire and Rescue, along with public servants and other fake firies from the remaining parts of QFES, all of whom QFES appears to be considering are able to act in senior operational and command roles.

In this edition - You may have recently heard of a federal court case brought by the UFUA to appoint an administrator to run its affairs. To better understand this case and the underlying issues, you first need to know that the UFUA is not the UFUQ nor associated with the UFUQ.

v36#4 UPDATE ON CONSULTATION PROCESSES REGARDING COMMISSIONER’S CONSIDERATION OF A COVID-19 VACCINATION MANDATE

In this edition - As advised on 24 January 2022, the UFUQ state office reached out to QFES shortly after Commissioner Leach emailed all staff to advise that he is considering the possibility of introducing a covid-19 vaccination mandate to confirm no decision has yet been made on the matter and to make arrangements for consultation processes with UFUQ SCM representatives.

In this edition - In CA19, your union successfully negotiated an external assessment of the live fire training work to determine if they ought to receive an allowance. I am pleased to report that the independent assessment did indeed determine those working at live fire were deserving of additional remuneration. Discussions between QFRS and your union continue to ensure that the allowances recommended for the live fire trainer work are paid as soon as possible.
