CODE 2, VOL 33, NO 16 : 05 august 2019

UPDATE: No Knock Knock for Fire and Rescue

In my Code 2 to you on Friday 2 August 2019 I reported that knock knock was knocking again (this year called Operation Community Connect Circus).

I am now pleased to report that after reminding QFES of the agreement regarding last year’s knock knock, I have confirmed with Fire and Rescue that no member of the UFUQ is required to participate in the rebadged knock knock this year.

As fulltime firefighters, auxiliary firefighters, and fire communication officers, your constant engagement with the community in your daily roles prevents the value you provide to your communities to be demeaned by any participation in the planned operation.

SUMMARY RE:        ‘OPERATION COMMUNITY CONNECT’
YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO PARTICIPATE IN ANY WAY
- you are not required to attend any activity not already planned or not part of your normal operational duties, and
- you are not required to record in any way your normal activities for any related reasons, and
- you are not required to report in any special way your normal work that you do every day for any related reasons.

From today, if any of your local managers mistakenly attempt to get you involved in any community engagement beyond your planned operational duties, you can report to them you are aware there is no expectation from QFES that you join in, in any way.

I ask that if any mistaken attempt is made from today onwards to have you participate in any way, that you email your evidence to ufu@ufuq.com.au and the state office will address each situation as required (all old attempts can now simply be ignored and any planning for participation forced upon you or your colleagues can now be disregarded).

I thank QFES for resolving this issue promptly.
