2020 Diaries and calendars

Your 2020 diaries and calendars are about to be sent to you in the mail. Keep an eye out for your diary.

And of course, I remind you that if we do not have your correct postal address, you won’t be receiving a diary.  Please update your details if you have not already done so.

Helmet Stickers

Your 2020 UFUQ member helmet sticker is also in the pack coming to you. You will recall you have the right to place your union sticker on your turn out helmet.
If any manager suggests the UFUQ 2020 member sticker cannot be worn on the helmet, contact your local delegate immediately.

In this edition - Great benefit for fuel discount for UFUQ members with Freedom Fuels.

v34#23 Application of the motor vehicle allowance directive

In this edition - The Queensland Government’s Motor Vehicle allowance directive contains an entitlement for mileage payments where a firefighter or station officer is required to work away from their normal station to relieve or perform “special duties”. This directive has long applied to members through clause 13.3 of your Award.

In this Edition - As professional firefighters we dedicate our lives to protecting our communities and to looking after each other, and we take great pride in what we do.

v34#20 28 APRIL – WORKERS’ MEMORIAL DAY

In this edition - A day where the workers of the world pause for a second to honour those who have died at, or because of, work. Even 20 years into this new century and millennium, workers are (in preventable ways) being killed at work, with the 2020 death toll already at 63 (total as at 23 April 2020 reported by Safework Australia).

In this edition - Many of you reading this Code 2 would be among those caught up in the thousands of error corrections required every fortnight. After 6 months, the reports I am receiving are that things are getting worse not better. I have asked for some information on how many mistakes are being made, and what’s actually being done to prevent them.

In this edition - As you may remember, your union wrote to Fire and Rescue last month to formally notify them of the ongoing errors and inconsistencies in the new system that require urgent fixing:

In this edition - I am getting reports from UFUQ representatives across all regions of inconsistent consultation with you and your elected representatives relating to COVID19 and its effect on BAU. To be fair, I have heard of a few very good examples of consultation occurring, but also of course, we all know of some examples of total refusal to consult in areas where dinosaurs still roam.

In this edition - I made the point in previous communications on this issue that things are moving quickly on COVID19 related matters and as such I wanted to inform you as soon as possible about the latest development.

In this edition - As with all matters COVID19, things are moving quickly. I am yet to receive any contact from the Commissioner or any other representative of Fire and Rescue. This is a deliberate decision by QFES senior management to exclude your union from the discussion on this matter.

v34#13 FIRE AND RESCUE RESPONSE DURING COVID19

In this edition - One very important and current example of very poor decision making in ‘One QFES’ that has not included your union (we were rung and told verbally it’s happening) was the idea to send operational firefighters to hand out forms at airports.
