CODE 2, VOL 33, NO 3 : 24 january 2019

Radios / Communications Taskforce set up in response to UFUQ survey into GWN / Radio problems

As I reported to you in early December 2018, your union presented the results of a survey of UFUQ members working in the GWN network area to Commissioner Carroll.

I thank the Commissioner for promptly establishing a 'Radio / Communications Taskforce' once the voices of those affected were reported to her.

The taskforce is to identify the technical and other issues surrounding the GWN network and radios (handheld, BA Comms and/or otherwise) and evaluate those issues, identify the causes, and provide high-level advice on potential solutions.

If you work in the GWN network area, it is my expectation you will be contacted by members of the taskforce in the near future to allow you to contribute your knowledge, evidence and opinions on network and radio issues you’ve personally encountered.  The period for contact and your chance to have your say commenced on 21 January and runs until 22 February 2019.

I strongly encourage your participation in the process and expect contact to have been made with all affected members by the middle of February 2019.

I am hopeful that finally, you and your colleagues can get some progress on the problems you’ve been reporting since day one of GWN.  The UFUQ has appointed a representative to the taskforce, who is liaising with me on a weekly basis about the work being done.

Finally, I wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you to the almost 1000 members in the GWN coverage area who promptly completed the survey in December and remind all members that no matter the issue, when you and your colleagues stand up, speak out and get involved, things happen.
