INDEPENDENT QFES STRUCTURE REVIEW – UPDATE

You will recall that Minister Ryan announced in December 2020 that he had called for an external and independent review of QFES to find out ‘what works, what doesn’t, and what can work better’.

You know that your union has been pushing for change for many years, and has been vocal about the failed Keelty experiment that created the three ring QFES circus with a side show alley of irrelevances draining the focus and the money away from fire stations, firefighters, fire trucks, and fire communications.

I am pleased to now report to you that on Friday 23 July 2021, the UFUQ was advised that the external review is up and running and will be conducted by KPMG.  I understand that QFES will also soon be informed of the appointment of KPMG.

The review is to commence as soon as possible and is expected to take eight weeks, and a report will be provided to the Minister.

Your union has been provided with a copy of the terms of reference and has also been invited to provide input directly to KPMG and we will ensure that our position on the future of Fire and Rescue is clearly explained to KPMG for the review.

I will keep you updated on this watershed moment for the future of Fire and Rescue as the review progresses.
