CODE 2, VOL 36, NO 16 : 19 september 2022

THURSDAY 22 SEPTEMBER PUBLIC HOLIDAY – ALL NORMAL ENTITLEMENTS APPLY

As you may be aware, Thursday 22 September 2022 has been declared a public holiday by the federal government.

As a result, for the public holiday to comply with Queensland provisions in the Holidays Act 1983 (Qld) and the Industrial Relations Act 2016 (Qld), on Thursday 15 September 2022 the Queensland Government amended both of those Acts to provide that the ‘one-off’ public holiday is observed on Thursday 22 September 2022, and is officially gazetted as a public holiday in the legislation.

What this means for UFUQ members is that all of the standard public holiday provisions apply to all members, for continuous shift workers, shift workers and day workers, and auxiliary firefighters.

I advise you to follow all of the normal public holiday recording and claim processes when completing your next time sheets and to keep a record and check against what you are eventually paid.
