UFUQ LIFE MEMBERSHIP AWARDED TO JOHN OLIVER

In an overwhelming show of support for the work John Oliver has done in the role of UFUQ State Secretary since his election to that role in 2010, the SCM recently unanimously voted YES to a nomination put to them to make John a life member of the UFUQ.

A ceremony was held during the October SCM meeting Thursday 17 October, where, as President, I had the honour of announcing John’s life membership along with executive member and life member Peter Chalmers.

John joined the Fire Service and our union in 1998 and is the 26th member to be awarded the honour of life membership.  At the ceremony to announce this honour six other life members were in attendance to celebrate John being included in this exclusive group of UFUQ members.

Life member Peter Chalmers listed the many significant achievements of the UFUQ during the period 2010 to present, and there is no doubt that John has provided stability in leadership and clear direction during his tenure as State Secretary to ensure the ongoing strength of your union.

In his speech, John thanked all current and previous members, his executive and SCM, and specifically called out the importance of the life members who have come before him for building the foundations upon which he and his executive and SCM are able to continue to provide.

I join with all members congratulating John on his well-deserved elevation to the honour of life membership.
