In this edition - In an overwhelming show of support for the work John Oliver has done in the role of UFUQ State Secretary since his election to that role in 2010, the SCM recently unanimously voted YES to a nomination put to them to make John a life member of the UFUQ.

v38#21 EMSFC APPOINTMENT DISPUTED BY UFUQ

In this edition - You may be aware that QFD recently announced an appointment to the Executive Manager State Fire Communications (EMSFC) role. Your union has concerns about the merit and selection processes used by QFD as they relate to operational fire communications manager competencies. This whole matter is about how QFD managed recruitment and selection processes and not about any individual person.

v38#20 FIREFIGHTERS’ REMEMBRANCE DAY

In this edition - Firefighters Remembrance Day is honoured every year on October 10, with flags at all fire stations flown at half-mast and a minute's silence observed at 10am. For those at station, a siren blast from your appliance for 10 seconds is also fitting at the conclusion of the minute silence.

In this edition - I am pleased to report that a process that commenced over 18 months ago with your union’s submissions to the Independent Review of the Queensland workers’ compensation system concluded on Thursday 22 August 2024 with the Queensland Parliament passing many amendments to the Workers’ Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003 (Qld).
