UFUQ WELCOMES NEW GOVERNMENT & MINISTER

WELCOME TO NEW MINISTER:
I wanted to provide a quick update on the change of government and first congratulate The Honourable Ms Ann Leahy MP who has been appointed Minister for Fire (amongst other portfolios).

I have already written to the new Minister asking to meet with her to hear her plans for this term of government and to hopefully identify common themes between your union and the new Minister and Crisafulli government’s thoughts on the direction of QFD, and other matters we can identify.

WHAT DOES NEW GOVERNMENT MEAN FOR YOUR EMPLOYMENT?
There is no doubt that the change in government will likely result in policy and legislation related changes that will directly impact your employment. Whilst it’s too early to speculate and there is no value in doing so, I consider there is much the UFUQ can do to work proactively with the new Crisafulli government, and I look forward to this term of government.

WHAT IS QFD COMMISSIONER’S PLAN?
I am meeting with the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner on Friday 8 November to discuss the way forward for QFD and what their intentions are under the new government. I would expect that QFD will continue to operate as it has with Fire and Rescue continuing to lead the way.

I will update you on each of the above three matters as soon as I am able.
