v35#13 PRESUMPTIVE LEGISLATION FOR PTSI PASSED BY PARLIAMENT

In this edition - As you would know, after many years of campaigning, in September 2015, the Palaszczuk Government passed amendments to Queensland’s workers’ compensation laws that introduced presumptive legislation for Firefighters who are diagnosed with one of 12 cancers. UFUQ members have benefited greatly from these laws. But cancers are not the only work related injuries that significantly affect UFUQ members, and since 2015 your union has been campaigning for similar presumptive legislation for PTSI.

v35#12 UFUQ SUCCEEDS IN FORCING SUSPENSION OF FBAN ROLE GIVEAWAY

In this edition - I am pleased to report that due to your union’s involvement, the switch to offering FBAN and Predictive Services roles to anyone but those with relevant experience has been halted.

v35#11 INTERNATIONAL FIREFIGHTERS’ DAY

In this edition - As professional firefighters we dedicate our lives to protecting our communities and to looking after each other, and we take great pride in what we do.

v35#10 LABOUR DAY 2021

In this edition - Monday 3 May 2021 is Labour Day and therefore a gazetted public holiday across Queensland.

v35#9 QFES SENIOR MANAGEMENT AGAIN STEALING YOUR JOBS AND GIVING THEM TO PUBLIC SERVANTS.

In this edition - I am aware that the Commissioner has recently signed off on a process your union is stepping in to correct. I’ll soon have more to say on this Commissioner and his apparent lack of understanding of what an actual firefighter in an actual fire service does.

v35#8 ANZAC DAY 2021 – PUBLIC HOLIDAY ARRANGEMENTS

In this edition - As you have no doubt noticed over the years, the Holidays Act – 1983 (Queensland) (the Act) has various ways of dealing with public holidays when they fall on a Saturday or Sunday.

v35#7 Immediate 3 day COVID-19 lockdown affecting your region

In this edition - You’re no doubt aware that earlier this morning (MONDAY 29 March 2021), Premier Palaszczuk announced changes to the state’s COVID-19 response, and the changes affect the entire state. The changes take effect from 1700 Monday 29 March 2021.
