v38#22 2025 DIARIES AND CALENDARS
In this edition - Your 2025 diaries and calendars will be mailed out in late December/early January. Please contact the union office to update address details if required.
v38#21 EMSFC APPOINTMENT DISPUTED BY UFUQ
In this edition - You may be aware that QFD recently announced an appointment to the Executive Manager State Fire Communications (EMSFC) role. Your union has concerns about the merit and selection processes used by QFD as they relate to operational fire communications manager competencies. This whole matter is about how QFD managed recruitment and selection processes and not about any individual person.
v38#20 FIREFIGHTERS’ REMEMBRANCE DAY
In this edition - Firefighters Remembrance Day is honoured every year on October 10, with flags at all fire stations flown at half-mast and a minute's silence observed at 10am. For those at station, a siren blast from your appliance for 10 seconds is also fitting at the conclusion of the minute silence.
v38#19 SEPTEMBER 11 – COMMEMORATIONS
In this edition - On September 11 2001, after coordinated terrorist attacks on United States soil, the twin towers of the World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan collapsed.
v38#18 WORKERS' COMPENSATION LAWS AMENDED PRESUMPTIVE INJURY LIST INCREASES FROM 12 TO 23
In this edition - I am pleased to report that a process that commenced over 18 months ago with your union’s submissions to the Independent Review of the Queensland workers’ compensation system concluded on Thursday 22 August 2024 with the Queensland Parliament passing many amendments to the Workers’ Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003 (Qld).
v38#17 QFD – ‘A FIRE SERVICE RUN BY FIREFIGHTERS’
In this edition - This is an important time for you and your colleagues with the commencement of the new Queensland Fire Department (QFD). QFD was created to ‘enable… the Fire and Rescue Service to return to being operationally focused—a fire service run by firefighters’ (Minister Boyd 30 April 2024 Hansard page 1329).
V38#16 PAY INCREASE 1 JULY 2024
In this edition - A reminder that the final annual wage rise for members occurs on 1 July 2024 with a 3% lift in your wages, and almost all allowances as well (not the aerial allowance as it is linked to the award changes).

AUXILIARY UPDATE
Auxiliary Update 19 July 2024
In this edition - A number of Auxiliary Firefighters have recently contacted UFUQ representatives and the state office about some potentially mistaken and inconsistent application across the state of the mandatory two-hour minimum payment provisions contained in Clause 22 of your award.
Auxiliary Update - 18 June 2024
In this edition - A reminder that your union fee statement will be emailed to your personal email address.
Auxiliary Update - 24 May 2024
In this edition - You will recall I advised you earlier this year of your 2023 wage rise. You will soon see an increase in your remuneration (for example hourly rate and annual retention allowances) by 5.75%. This increase is a result of the State Wage Case, run by Queensland Unions in the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission.
Auxiliary Update - 02 April 2024
In this edition - Throughout the second half of 2023, your union provided multiple inputs (through the Queensland Council of Unions) to the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission (QIRC) State Wage Case (SWC) hearings to ensure your work was considered by the QIRC in deciding on what wage rise (if any) to apply to Queensland Modern Awards for 2023.
Auxiliary Update - 29 March 2024
In this edition - With the Easter period, ANZAC Day and Labour Day almost upon us, I provide the following to UFUQ Auxiliary Firefighter members to clear up any confusion that may exist regarding what you are entitled to claim on the many upcoming public holidays.
