In this edition - Your union wrote to the Commissioner on 12 September 2023 requesting that he confirm whether the COLA payments, which were fought for and won by your union, would be calculated on your average standardised wage rate.

v37#12 SEPTEMBER 11 – COMMEMORATIONS

In this edition - On September 11 2001, after coordinated terrorist attacks on United States soil, the twin towers of the World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan collapsed. As a result, more than 2500 people were killed and many thousands more were injured, including 343 fallen comrades from the New York City Fire Department who put themselves in harm’s way to protect the lives of those victims.

In this edition - There are complex investigations currently underway regarding the Slacks Creek Fire. Your union is involved in a range of ways but, I want to be clear, we cannot openly discuss matters in a Code 2 that will jeopardise these Investigations. I am happy to provide some basic detail of what is taking place currently.

v37#9 SUPERANNUATION INCREASE FROM 12.75% TO 14.25% - CONFIRMED!

In this edition - During my time as your UFUQ State Secretary a common discussion amongst you and your colleagues has been the forced cessation of your superannuation earning capacity as a result of being required to retire at 65. On that topic, I am pleased to finally be able to report to you today confirmation of an historic change in your superannuation which will take effect on 1 July 2023.

In this edition - FUNDRAISING FOR IZZY AND LIA CONTINUES The UFUQ account I reported to you on 9 May in Code 2 Volume 37 Number 6, has garnered much positive response and I am pleased to report there is now over $24,000 to be shared between Izzy’s family and her partner Bec, and of course to Lia, who is continuing on her long road to recovery. We will have discussions with those people in the coming weeks about how that money will be distributed.

In this edition - I, along with the UFUQ State Office staff and many colleagues from across BR, SWR, SER and beyond will attend the memorial service for our fallen friend and colleague FF Izzy Nash.

In this edition - You will recall I advised you earlier this year of your 2023 wage rise. You will soon see an increase in your remuneration (for example hourly rate and annual retention allowances) by 5.75%. This increase is a result of the State Wage Case, run by Queensland Unions in the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission.

Auxiliary Update - 02 April 2024

In this edition - Throughout the second half of 2023, your union provided multiple inputs (through the Queensland Council of Unions) to the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission (QIRC) State Wage Case (SWC) hearings to ensure your work was considered by the QIRC in deciding on what wage rise (if any) to apply to Queensland Modern Awards for 2023.
