Committee of Management Elections - Results

Non-conforming building products

On Thursday 17 May 2018, Minister for Housing and Public Works Mr de Brenni tabled the 'Queensland Non-Conforming Building Products Audit Taskforce Status Report’ in the Queensland parliament.

Your union has had discussions with the Minister outlining our concerns about you and your colleagues facing the risk of attending a fire or other emergency at a site where non-conforming building products are present.

The Minister acknowledged the discussions with your union and the risk to you and your colleagues in his speech in Queensland Parliament, when he said ‘the safety of our built environment is paramount (and) it has become apparent that the use of some cladding materials poses a significant risk to … firefighters’.

I am pleased to report that the UFUQ has now been invited to nominate a task force member to work with the task force and the state government as this matter evolves.

There is much work to do in this area, and I will keep you informed of the progress to reduce the risk to you and your colleagues arising from non-conforming building products.
