QFES DRAWS CLOSER TO EXTINCTION

Your union has been working hard for an end to the QFES circus, through the establishment of the new Queensland Fire Department and a return to fire and rescue operations being the focus of that new department.

You will no doubt have seen some announcements on Tuesday 24 October 2023 about interim leadership arrangements during the dissolution of QFES and the build of QFD.

If you’ve been paying attention to Code 2’s about this topic, you’ll have seen for some years your union has pushed for real firefighters to oversee the running of Fire and Rescue.

These new leadership announcements are a positive step forward that place an operational focus back on the department, with A/Cr Steve Smith appointed interim Commissioner at the helm in the final months of QFES, representing QFRS with responsibility for development of the QFD.

I have thanked the Minister, Mark Ryan, on your behalf, on the positive news in the announcement and look forward to continuing to ensure your roles are the primary focus of the new QFD.
