QFES COMMISSIONER RESIGNS

On behalf of members, I acknowledge Commissioner Leach’s work in the role since his appointment in 2019. I personally thank the Commissioner for his candid engagement with me on your behalf on the range of difficult challenges that faced him in his tenure.

His resignation on Tuesday 3 October 2023 is the most visible sign of the beginning of the end of the QFES era. This gives you and your colleagues, and your union, a fresh chance to reshape the defunct QFES into a Fire Department that focusses its energy and time on operational matters.

We look forward to working with whomever is placed in the QFES Commissioner role to continue the work with your union on building the new Queensland Fire Department.
