CODE 2, VOL 38, NO 1 : 19 january 2024
UFUQ WELCOMES 2024 WITH QFD AND MORE
On behalf of your Executive, State Committee members and all elected officials I welcome members to the first 2024 Code 2 from your union. This is an exciting year for all members, with QFD and its return to a focus on operations and operational outcomes being a significant improvement to the bloated QFES, which had lost its way under bad leadership.
Your state office and your industrial officers are back into the thick of it, and positive announcements are coming over the remainder of January on a range of topics.
2024 promises to be a positive year for UFUQ members and I look forward to working for and with many of you across the year.
NEW FIRE MINISTER ANNOUNCES INDEPENDENT EXTERNAL REVIEW OF QFES COMPLAINTS SYSTEM
The resignation of the former Premier and the move to the new Steven Miles led ALP government produced some other changes.
This includes the appointment of The Honourable Ms Nikki Boyd as Minister for Fire and Rescue, Disaster Recovery and Corrective Services.
Minister Boyd is a strong supporter of your union, and I have personally met with the Minister to welcome her to the portfolio and to outline the works your union is involved in regarding QFD and beyond.
On behalf of all members, I also welcome Minister Boyd’s announcement on Friday 19 January 2024 of an independent, external review into the complaints system within QFES. As the Minister has stated, you deserve to be safe at work, and that extends to you trusting in any new QFD complaints system to fairly and appropriately manage any complaint you make.
Your union has a strong history of advocating for improvements to the way complaints are managed by your employer. To be clear, your union does not accept inappropriate behaviour, performance, or conduct, and supports legitimate complainants through these processes on every occasion.
Legitimate complaints deserve legitimate inquiry by a robust and fit-for-purpose complaints system within the new QFD, and we will continue to fight for that being the case.
